Gagg Family History

Welcome to the Gagg family  history website

( September 28th 2008 )

Fred Gagg will be 100 on the 22nd October of this year

and I would like to ask anyone connected to the Gagg family across the world if they would send birthday cards  and or letters to Fred.

I think it would be a great birthday gift if Fred was to receive cards or letters from  people across the world  celebrating his 100th birthday.

So I ask all of you to please send a  birthday card or letter to,

Mr Frederick Gagg, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent courts, Stisted Hall,

iling lane, Braintree ,Essex CH77 8AG, United Kingdom

Fred was born on the 21stnd October 1908,his father was Christopher Gagg and his mother Eleanor (Jones) Gagg.

Fred was the seventh oldest of 13 children ,my granddad Christopher being the oldest born 31st October 1897 and their sister Frances being the youngest born  June 1918

Fred married Rebecca  on the8th June 1930 and they had 3 children Fred, Ken and Maureen.

Fred and Becky were married for more than 60 years , receiving a telegram from the Queen on their 60th Anniversary .

Fred served in the army in the Military Police  with his brother Christopher, and also served as a Pt instructor. Fred attained the rank of Sergeant.

He has always been an active man and up to 5 years ago was a regular sight cycling through Harlow in Essex.

He has always liked  going for a daily walk no matter what the weather and enjoys himself  playing the piano, singing and dancing.

Fred has been an inspiration to all of us in my family, my dad and his brothers Christopher and Fred taking after  their uncle Fred   in their attitude to life, always active and never believing they are getting on in years.

I recently received a letter from Freddy and Margaret (Fred's son and daughter in law), in the letter they say that Fred is still going strong  and is  very 'perky' although he has had  his bad days and has had a few falls but  when told that he may have to use a walking frame, walking sticks .Fred  refuses to use them, the typical Gagg  stubborness coming to the fore, and is probably what keeps him young at heart.

I believe that Fred is the oldest Gagg ever to have lived, in all of my research going back to Drago de Gagg in the  1200s ,I have found many members of the  Family living to great ages  for the times that they lived in.

The last 20 years have seen a few living into their 90s, Fred's sister Nell being one of them, but as i have said before I believe that Fred is the first to reach the age of 100 and we  hope that he sees many more birthdays yet.
